Marc Jacobs: Mauve and Iris

In one of his periodic 1970s flashbacks, Marc Jacobs tonight seemed to point to Jodie Foster, the teenage prostitute Iris in “Taxi Driver,” and to images of women in mauve and flowers, perhaps especially those of the illustrator Antonio Lopez. Iris was an obvious allusion, because of the turn-back-brim hats, the curly hair, and the number of high-waist shorts and small knit tops in Mr. Jacobs’ spring 2011 collection. It was Ruth Morley who designed the costumes for “Taxi Driver.”

But you would have no trouble thinking of other 70s figures. “Lots of New York dolls,” Mr. Jacobs said backstage. He added, “After last season’s beige, I wanted to see more color.”
The colors were heady — mauve and pink mixed with goldenrod and tobacco, melon, peach, deep lilac (for a beautiful draped halter dress in charmeuse), cloudy pinks, gold (as glitter on platforms, as trim on evening looks). In the models’ hair were orchids. There were also corsages or a cluster of flowers on a choker. And, of course, the wide-brim straw hats in contrasting colors.

This wasn’t Mr. Jacobs’ most moving collection, but it had a finessing glamour and was a natural follow to last season’s elegant show and longer lengths. Staged in the round, with a gold centerpiece that looked like a cooling tower (someone joked that the structure was a repurposing of Karl Lagerfeld’s giant gold lion from his July Chanel show), the collection included tailored pants suits and shorts in what looked like washed duchess satin, a slim shirt dress in a dot-print silk satin, generously flounced peasant dresses and full skirts in cotton, below-the-knit knit dresses in a Missoni zig-zag pattern with long cardigans, and some lovely, floaty dresses in a wide-striped sheer cotton.
The music was Vivaldi’s “Summer,” from “The Four Seasons.”

Looking To Switch Up Your Style Fellas?!

There are many classic cool looks to change up your style and keep key elements of your own unique personality. FELLAS!!! Now that I have your attention. White "T"s and Simple blue jeans are a thing of the past. If your trying to catch the attention of the young lady on your block or trying to get that job you've always wanted or if you just want to stand out in a crowd of many listen up. Here are a few tips you can use to step up your dead wardrobe...

1. Color IS and man's friend: many think that to many colors is not good, but different colors make a statement. Find your true color: Blues, Oranges, Reds and Even Purples (yes purple) brings more personality to your everyday style. It even helps you stand out, and it makes the statement that you thought about the outfit you put together when you woke up that morning.

2. Buttons Up's, Polo's and Cardigans are not just pieces to wear on a job interview or to church. A nice button up says you care about how you look and it can be a cool solution during the hot summer days. Polo's are a good for everyday wear, it can be dressed up or dressed down. For a date or just a night out with the guys.

3. Blazer's, Vest and Jackets: The right jacket can highlight and outfit showing class and confidence. Fellas its not always what you wear but how you wear it. A stylish vest over a button up can create a sexy, classy look that can go from day to evening without any problems (since we know how much our lovely men hate to change multiple times).

4. Last by not least Men. Don't be afraid to accessorize! Let me run that back. DONT BE AFRAID TO ACCESSORIZE! Scarf's, Jewelry, Hats, Eyewear, and Shoes are key points to your outfit. Sometimes they can even make or break your whole look. The right pair of shoes to match the hat brings out the real you.

Now, fellas who ever said fashion was a women's industry surely hasn't stepped into 2010 yet. Men's fashion is on the rise and I am here to make sure all my handsome guys get caught up.

Men can Accessorize too!!

I have a message for all my male followers and for the women who appreciates a man who accessorizes. For many years, most men wouldn't be seen wearing any form of jewelry beyond a pocket watch or wedding ring. You would never see a man wearing an earring or having any portion of his body pierced with an ornament. These days, men wear a wide range of jewelry, and many are influenced by hip-hop and or pop/rock culture to get jewel-encrusted rings, necklaces and teeth covers. Some men even wear rings in their lip and multiple piercing in their face. It has become acceptable in our society for a man to wear earrings, sometimes on both ears. Often, men will go beyond the ear and pierce their nose, lip, eyebrow, nipple and a host of other places. Earrings have become so common on men that few people even look twice at it. Make sure your husband or boyfriend will wear an earring before you buy one for them. Now fellas, and ladies if you want to buy the man in your life, whether its a father, brother, boyfriend or husband, one thing u cant go wrong with is a watch. For men, an expensive watch is a form of jewelry. Do not be afraid to buy him a gold or silver watch. It is one of the few forms of male jewelry that has changed little over time. Now if you really want to impress, it is ok to wear cuff links. Any classy and well-dressed male will have expensive cuff links to put on their expensive coats. Don't go for a too flashy one, but a small silver or gold cuff link can be a wonderful gift to class up any outfit. Women look out that Tiffany's Box may not be for you any more!
